比利乔的手指下去，把音符切成了一块块寂寞蛋糕，分送到我们的嘴里。“钢琴手”1973年推出，比利乔便大获成功，次年四月成为热门歌曲排行榜第25名。这个歌已经40岁了，但是在我心里他永永远远是第25名。
歌词写了很多人物，这里有老人，酒保，小说家，商人，女招待，包括比利乔，那时候他在洛杉矶每夜弹着钢琴，赚着辛苦钱。每个人几乎都很失意，很孤独。尽管酒吧人来人往，熙熙攘攘，但是内心深处却非常落魄。这让我想起美国诗人庞德《在一个地铁站》的名诗：在人群中这些面孔幽灵般显现，湿漉漉的黑色枝条上的许多花瓣。人们的欲望总是一开始湿漉漉的，但是最终却被社会或自然无情地拧干了。
时间推着我们，一个场景一个场景转换，现在已经是2012年，而1973年某个周末独自喝酒的失意的人，如今应该也垂垂老矣。我们终于发现，所有的梦想也会像啤酒泡沫一样，消失得无影无踪；所有的孤独和失意有一天也会成为一个休止符。
这首曲子旋律异常优美，一开始钢琴一段非常快乐的爵士独奏，接着下来口琴，贝斯，手风琴，曼陀林，鼓和人声如鸡尾酒混杂一起，调出最美丽的旋律。比利乔在此歌演绎时，低吟高唱，展示我们人类人生的起起伏伏。俺没有喝孤独这杯酒，却已经被这支曲子彻底熏倒了。
