“Blowing in the wind”这首歌是使Bob Dylan从小有名气走向巨星之路的作品。1962年，著名音乐家、制作人John Hammond代表哥伦比亚唱片公司(Columbia Records)与Bob Dylan签约，并于同年推出了名为《Bob Dylan》的处女作专辑，因为Bob Dylan那带鼻音的粗糙嗓门而被公司内部戏称为“Hammond找来的呆子”，唱片也卖得不理想。但在一年后，情况改变了。“Peter Paul & Mary”三人演唱组翻唱了这首“Blowing in the wind”，在全国范围内一炮打响，打上了排行榜的第二名，一时间，Bob Dylan自己的演唱版本也开始在电台频繁播出，该曲及专辑也顺利登上排行榜，1962年，关于这首歌，他说过这样的话“我认为最有罪的是那些看到不对的东西，心里也知道那不对但就是不愿正视的人。”所以，他在这首歌中提出的一个个问题，不啻是对正义、良心的一次次追问。
