Devendra Banhart是名谜样的人物。这名现年二十四岁，蓄着长发与浓胡的俊美青年，喜欢在台上穿着女装打扮成巫师，私下不修边幅，且总爱赤裸双脚游踪各地的美西嬉皮，如今却引领着所谓的Freak-Folk Movement风潮，与Christian-Folk Movement的掌舵者Sufjan Stevens各霸一方。Devendra将新专辑形容为New New Age，他甚至启用了World Music这个字眼。这里的世界音乐泛指的当然不是那些市侩时髦的商业化民族乐，而是长久以来内化於Devendra心中的诸多音乐养份，如雷鬼、美式蓝调、英式民谣、非洲音乐、Salsa等，都巧妙地融入这些如诗作般纤细的民谣曲子里。
