Down by the Salley Gardens my love and I did meet

She passed the Salley Gardens with little snow-white feet

She bid me take love easy as the leafes grow on the tree

她嘱我真爱要简单，就如树枝长新叶，清新美丽又自然

But I being young and foolish with her did not agree

怪我年少又无知，倔强又任性，悖逆爱的真谛

In a field by the river my love and I did stand

就在河畔田野里，爱神与我驻立

And on my leaning shoulder she laid her snow-white hand

She bid me take life easy as the grass grows on the weirs
