歌曲背景：
歌手Freddie Aguilar 来自菲律宾南部民答那峨小城，他曾经很潦倒, 过着乞丐一样的生活。在他最为潦倒的时候，他的孩子降临到这个世界上了。他把他的爱，他的彷徨，他的眼泪都写到了歌里。
1978年，Freddie Aguilar 以他自己用真情谱写的歌曲「Anak 孩子」，参加了马尼拉的第一届「大都会流行音乐节」歌唱大赛。当时，他还是个名不见经传的歌坛新人。以当地语言演唱的这首歌，以扣人心弦的旋律，描述著父母对儿女的爱，引起了热烈的回响。
不过，由于该项比赛强调的是符合当时流行风潮的作品，而这首充满民谣风味的歌曲显然与大会的要求有着相当大的差距，经过再三的考虑之后，评审团决定给他亚军。由于「Anak」所获得的成功，Freddie Aguilar不但忙碌于世界各国的演唱，更应邀前往美国，在洛杉矶灌录英语专辑「After Child」。
尽管销路还算不错，Freddie Aguilar 不满于唱片公司另请所谓“名家”填词，而并没有忠实于他的创作本意。于是，Freddie Aguilar 亲自将「Anak」填上英语歌词的「Child」，忠实的呈现出他对于亲子关系的感叹。结果，正是因为这首Freddie Aguilar 填写的英文歌词忠实原来的创作精神，从而打动了世界各地的人们。
